Ingredients

  • 1 cup Guinness beer Adds depth and richness.
  • 1 medium Onion Finely chopped.
  • 2 medium Carrots Diced.
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced.
  • 1 cup Beef broth Can use vegetable broth for a lighter version.
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce Adds complexity.
  • 1 tbsp Herbs (thyme and rosemary) Fresh or dried.
For the Mashed Potatoes
  • 2 lb Russet potatoes Ideal for a fluffy topping.
  • 4 tbsp Butter Enriches the mash.
  • 1/2 cup Heavy cream or milk Adds smoothness.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Ensure every bite is seasoned perfectly.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400?F.
  2. Saut? the onions and garlic in a large skillet over medium heat for about 5 minutes, until they are soft and fragrant.
  3. Add the ground meat (beef or lamb) to the skillet and cook until browned, stirring frequently for about 7-10 minutes.
  4. Stir in the carrots and peas, letting them mingle for another 3-5 minutes until they start to soften.
  5. Pour in the Guinness, scraping up any delicious brown bits from the bottom of the pan. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes until slightly thickened.
  6. Mix in the Worcestershire sauce, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Prepare the mashed potatoes by boiling peeled potatoes for 15-20 minutes until tender, then mashing with butter and cream.
  8. Layer half of the meat mixture in a baking dish, followed by an even layer of mashed potatoes on top.
