Method
 

Make the Syrup
  1. In a saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  2. Once the sugar is dissolved, remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract if using.
  3. Allow the syrup to cool, then mix in your choice of fruit juice or flavored extract.
  4. Transfer the syrup to a bottle for storage.
