Dry Ingredients
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg beaten

Method
 

Prepare the Dough
  1. Preheat the oven to 425?F (220?C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Make a well in the center and add the buttermilk and beaten egg.
  4. Mix until a soft dough forms, then turn it out onto a floured surface.
Shape and Bake
  1. Knead gently for a minute, then shape into a round loaf.
  2. Place the loaf on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. Cut a deep cross into the top of the loaf with a knife.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Cool on a wire rack before slicing.
