Ingredients
  

Topping
  • 1 cup fresh cherries, pitted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
Cake Batter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Method
 

Prepare the Topping
  1. Preheat the oven to 350?F (175?C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine melted butter and brown sugar. Mix until well combined.
  3. Pour the mixture into the bottom of the cake pan and spread evenly.
  4. Arrange the pitted cherries on top of the sugar mixture.
Make the Cake Batter
  1. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg, milk, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
Bake the Cake
  1. Pour the cake batter over the cherries in the pan, spreading it evenly.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  3. Allow the cake to cool for 10 minutes, then invert onto a serving plate.
