Ingredients
  

Batter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Filling
  • 2 cups fresh or frozen cherries pitted and halved
Topping
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Method
 

Prepare the Batter
  1. Preheat the oven to 350?F (175?C). Grease a 9-inch round baking pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Stir in melted butter, egg, milk, and vanilla extract until just combined.
Assemble the Cake
  1. Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking pan.
  2. Spread the cherries evenly over the batter.
  3. Pour the remaining batter over the cherries.
Prepare the Topping
  1. In a small bowl, mix together sugar, flour, butter, and cinnamon until crumbly.
  2. Sprinkle the topping over the batter in the pan.
Bake
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
