  • 1 cup yellow split peas (toor dal)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 medium tomato, diced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 2 tablespoons ghee or oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Rinse the yellow split peas under cold water until clear.
  2. In a pot, combine rinsed peas with 4 cups of water and turmeric. Boil, then simmer for about 30 minutes until tender.
  3. Heat ghee or oil in a pan over medium heat and add cumin seeds until they crackle.
  4. Saut? onions until golden brown; stir in ginger-garlic paste and diced tomatoes. Cook until tomatoes soften.
  5. Mix cooked lentils into the saut?ed mixture along with salt and coriander powder. Stir well for about 5 minutes.
  6. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.
