Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups chopped apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare apples by peeling, coring, and chopping them into bite-sized pieces. Toss with cinnamon and sugar.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix milk and vanilla extract. Pour into dry ingredients and stir until just combined; lumps are fine.
  4. Fold in chopped apples until evenly distributed.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan to about 350?F (175?C).
  6. Drop spoonfuls of batter into hot oil and fry until golden brown on both sides (about 2 minutes per side). Drain on paper towels.
  7. For the glaze, mix powdered sugar with milk and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle over warm fritters before serving.
