Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (lean)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (plain or Italian)
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 4 sub rolls (hoagie or Italian bread)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400?F (200?C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into meatballs about one inch in diameter and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Bake for approximately 20 minutes until browned and cooked through.
  5. While the meatballs bake, heat the marinara sauce in a saucepan over medium heat.
  6. Once cooked, assemble the subs by placing several meatballs on each roll, topping with marinara sauce and shredded mozzarella cheese. Return to the oven for an additional five minutes until the cheese melts.

Notes

For extra flavor, add saut?ed bell peppers or onions to your marinara sauce.

You can use ground turkey or chicken as a leaner alternative to beef.

To avoid soggy bread, lightly toast your sub rolls before assembling.
